The Inca or Andean tradition.
The Inca or Andean-tradition is an
ancient wisdom that comes from South-America, exactly when is
difficult to define. There is however traces back more than
16,000 years, and the tradition has survived with the Q'eros
Indians who lives in the mountains outside Cusco in Peru. These
Indians are direct ascended from the Incas and did hide out here
in the mountains after the Spain's conquer South-America. They
was discovered again in 1949 by the Father of Juan Nuņez del
Prado who has being studying the tradition in more than 35
years. He travels around the world and makes workshops about the
way that he has experience the tradition. Another one who has
done a lot of work bringing the wisdom to the outside world is Elisabeth B. Jenkins
who has written 2 books and made a foundation to support the
Q'eros in their villages out in the mountains.
The Andean tradition is not in it
self a religion, it's more a philosophy of life and a
recognition that we are connected to everything that surrounds
us. It is about living in harmony with our surroundings, and
paying respect to each other and yourself. A lot of the basic
stuff is familiar from other aboriginal traditions around the
world. The culture in the mountains at the Q'eros is still
pretty much as it has always been, they are now having schools
and there has been done a lot of work to secure water, but they
still life in stone huts and sleep directly on the earth. And
most of them life in more than 3600 meters high, and it is
pretty cold up there. They don't have toilets and showers, they
go out in nature to do their business. And they are not that
influence by the western culture as other places around the
world, and that means that they bring to us the tradition in a
more pure way.
The Q'eros doctors is Shamans and
is called Pago's, they work with healing, ceremonies and herbs.
They have the title Don for the men and Doņa for the women,
their function in their villages is priest, doctors and leaders
and people respect them as so. They also have their own fields
and animals to attend to. The must common is that the family has
a history of being Pago's, but it is not necessary to be related
to become Pago. The Q'eros Pago are well know for their work
with energy which the are masters in, and they work in harmony
with all the elements that we know of.
So what are they able to teach us?
What they tell us is simple, do
what enrich your life in a spiritual, mental and physical way.
Do it because you must, and if you live your life in that way
you will never miss anything. Honor your self and all around
you. Be in harmony with your self and your surroundings.
They have the simple approach to
things and handle it in a very down to earth way. Simple
techniques that you can use in your everyday life, no matter who
you are or where you are. It's not about doing a lot of things
every day, it is about doing it with the right intention, love
and respect. To use the 10 minutes, half an hour or however long
time you use, with focus on that and nothing else than that.
Then you will shortly begin to feel the differences in
your life. You will be able to handle things easier and have
more energy.
What has it meant to me personally?
For me the tradition has made me
able to better sense and feel. It has open up the doorway so
that I have expanded my energy field and made me realize
emotions and feeling that use to be black spots for me. It has
giving me the understanding on how we are connected, and how
important we are to each other and to our surroundings. It has
lifted me up as a person, and helped me to handle my everyday
life in a better way. It has helped me release and realize a lot
of old stuff that I used to carry around. It has helped me
closer to my self and my own inner source, and have giving me
the opportunity to feel alive again. And it still amaze me how
it can lift me up.
